Civil Air Patrol members honored

Members of the Lancaster Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Jesse Jones Squadron 304 received special recognition for their volunteer efforts following a plane crash near the Lancaster Airport on March 9 and 10.

Shortly after the crash on March 9, CAP members responded to the scene, providing support to on-scene emergency responders. Their efforts included establishing a clear zone perimeter to preserve evidence, conducting on-site surveillance overnight, performing line searches to locate evidence, and maintaining security until personnel from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) arrived the next day to perform their investigation.

A total of 40 CAP members from across Pennsylvania received awards, including 14 members from the Lancaster Squadron. The Lancaster CAP members who received recognition for their contributions are Cadet Staff Sgt. Michael Pietrangeli, Cadet Staff Sgt. Kevin Heisey, Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Camden Rineer, Cadet Master Sgt. Joshua Hagan, Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Lucyann Draeger, Cadet Senior Master Sgt. Carter Bojako, Cadet Tech. Sgt. Cooper Hayes, 2nd Lt. Colby Smith, Cadet Lt. Col. Slater Shannon, Tech. Sgt. Gerhard Heim, Lt. Col. Glenn Baugher, 2nd Lt. Craig Shannon, Maj. Carlton Walls, and 1st Lt. Bruce Gentry.

Jesse Jones Squadron 304 meets each Monday except holidays at 7 p.m. in the Venture Jets hangar, which is located at the Lancaster Airport near the intersection of Lititz Pike and Millport Road. Visitors are welcome.
