Church To Present Live Nativity, Holiday Services

Impact Church, 101 E. First Ave., Parkesburg, will present a live Nativity drive-through on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 18 and 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will feature live animals, music, characters and scenes that will transport visitors back to the first Christmas.

Participants can enjoy the free event from the warmth of their cars. The program will be about six minutes in length, during which time attendees can listen to a narrative via a phone or computer tablet.

"They will click on a link to our website that will open up a YouTube audio," explained Linda Wendling, administrative assistant at Impact Church. "There will be a sign at the entrance that tells them the website or a QR code they can scan. They will need a smart device."

There will be three scenes that will depict Jesus Christ's birth, death and resurrection. "The first is of the inn and the innkeeper, who will send (Mary and Joseph) away, which will be next to the Nativity scene," said Wendling. "Scene two will be the cross and then will be the tomb where angels appear, and Jesus comes out of the tomb alive."

Impact Church is also planning two other Christmas events.

"Christmas Sunday" will be observed on Dec. 19 during the 10 a.m. gathering. Cookies and hot cocoa will be served both before and after the service. The service will include Christmas music and a Christmas message, which is part of the "Characters of Christmas" sermon series being held during December. The topic on Dec. 19 will be "Room for Jesus? - The Innkeeper." "Seeking and Finding - The Wise Men" will be the focus on Sunday, Dec. 26.

A Christmas Eve Candlelight Gathering will take place on Friday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m. After music and a short message, attendees will gather around the outdoor Christmas tree to take part in a traditional candle lighting. Hot cocoa will be served.

Church members took part in an "ugly sweater" decorating party on Dec. 3 to decorate the interior and exterior of the church, prepare for the holiday activities and string lights on outdoor trees surrounding the church building.

The exterior of the church and the outdoor Christmas tree will remain lit throughout the holiday season. "The stationary Nativity figures are out, which is what we used last year instead of the live Nativity, so people can drive by anytime," Wendling added.
