Church to Present Concert

Simple Gifts will be the featured musicians at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, on Sunday, Feb. 22.

The concert will feature a variety of sounds - Irish, Appalachian, Eastern European, Scandinavian and more - performed on fiddles, banjo, mandolin and guitar. Audiences will also be introduced to some more unusual instruments like the bowed psaltery, baritone fiddle and hammered dulcimer.

The duo will play a wide range of world music on bluegrass instruments, including banjo playing Klezmer melodies, twin fiddling on a Bulgarian dance and mandolin and hammered dulcimer playing a Swedish polska.

The event will begin at 3 p.m., when attendees will have the opportunity to learn the Cajun tradition of spoons playing. Teaspoons will be provided. Audience members will be invited to perform with Simple Gifts at the start of the concert, scheduled for 4 p.m.
