Church To Honor Lindman

Trinity Lutheran Church, New Holland, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Rev. Donald I. Lindman's ordination on Sunday, Feb. 12, at the 10:30 a.m. worship service, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.

Lindman is a graduate of Thiel College and holds a Master of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. He was ordained on Feb. 14, 1971, in Youngstown, Ohio. He completed Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Penn State Milton Hershey Medical Center.

He served as pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reedsville from 1971 to 1978 and as pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Ephrata from 1979 to 1983. He was also an interim pastor for Trinity Lutheran Church in New Holland in 1985.

Lindman also served as hospital chaplain at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Lebanon until his retirement from ordained ministry in 2003. He was a military chaplain in the U.S. Army Reserve and was mobilized to Fort Dix in New Jersey for active duty following the 9/11 attacks. While at Fort Dix, he developed a ministry counseling soldiers to prepare them for combat. For this initiative, the Reserve Officer Association awarded him the Father Vincent Capodanno Chaplain of the Year Award in 2003. Lindman retired from military service as a lieutenant colonel after 28 years of service.

He was instrumental in establishing the training program for volunteer hospital chaplains at Lewistown Hospital and spearheaded a building project at the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Reedsville.

Lindman was president of Ephrata Area Social Services and served as a volunteer hospital chaplain at Ephrata Hospital. He remains active at Trinity Lutheran Church on the Refugee Resettlement Committee, sponsoring two young women from Afghanistan, and he is involved with Trinity's educational ministries.

He is married to Kathleen McClelland Lindman, and they have two daughters, Julie Lindman and Anne Lindman Zerbe, wife of Mark Zerbe, as well as two grandchildren.
