Church to Hold Arts Events

First Reformed Church, 40 E. Orange St., Lancaster, has planned two performing arts events. A concert, "Organic Reflections: Celebrating American Composers," will take place on Friday, May 1, at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. The 30-minute program will feature organist Larry Hershey and trumpeter Doug Albert. The program will include Aaron Copland's "At the River," Joseph Brackett's rendition of the Shaker song "Simple Gifts," and Carmen Dragon's arrangement of "America, the Beautiful." Admission is free.

"Soul & Spirit" will take place on Sunday, May 3, at 4 p.m. This 90-minute sacred arts experience will celebrate Black history, faith, resilience, justice, and hope through gospel music, jazz, and the spoken word. Originally scheduled in February to celebrate Black History Month, the event was postponed due to winter storms. The program will be hosted by Dominique Denman and will feature Kellie Turner and Alanna Piper. Admission is free, and a freewill offering will be received to help maintain First Reformed Church's historic sacred space.
