Simon Johnson, master of music at Westminster Cathedral, London, will perform on Derry Church's Aeolian-Skinner Op. 1132 pipe organ at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the sanctuary.

The Aeolian-Skinner Op. 1132 organ was originally installed in 1950 at the Church of the Redeemer in New Haven, Conn. Derry Church purchased it in the fall of 2019 as the Church of the Redeemer was closing, and the installation was completed in September 2021.

Prior to working at Westminster Cathedral, Johnson was the organist and assistant director of music at St Paul's Cathedral since 2008, during which time he played for all the national events that took place there, including the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen and the funeral of Baroness Thatcher. Previously, he was assistant master of music at St Albans Cathedral, establishing the reputation of the Girls' Choir. His first job was director of music at All Saints' Church in Northampton.

A member of the European Chapter of the AGO, Johnson has performed as a soloist and continuo player with well-known British orchestras and has had an extensive recital career in Europe and the U.S. He also played the organ on the soundtrack for the movie "The Grand Budapest Hotel"; the soundtrack won an Oscar, a Grammy Award, and a BAFTA award. Additionally, Johnson enjoys composing and orchestral conducting.

The concert is part of the church's 2022 Arts Alive! cultural series. A freewill offering will be received. Handicapped-accessible parking and an elevator are available. Face masks for audience members are optional.

The Arts Alive! season will continue with Christmas concerts at 2 and 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4.
