Church Posts Concert

Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster, will host trumpeter John Maurer and pianist Nate Petley in concert on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. The concert is part of the church's Starlight Tea Concert Series.

Maurer is a trumpet and flugelhorn artist and music educator who received his bachelor's degree from Millersville University and master's degree from Penn State. He is the lecturer of trumpet at Marywood University in Scranton. He has performed as a soloist at the Arizona Biltmore, Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State, the Lincoln Center, and Curtis Institute of Music, among other venues. He has performed his nationally recognized rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" for the Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Washington Nationals, and Los Angeles Dodgers, and he has shared the stage and recorded with many known musicians, including Les Brown Jr. and Eddie Henderson. Maurer has conducted master classes at various universities.

Petley is an accomplished freelance piano and keyboard musician who received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Millersville University. He is the keyboard and organ player for The Uptown Band, an award-winning variety band based in Reading. At the 2023 BroadwayWorld Awards, he was awarded with best sound design for a play or musical for his work on the Ephrata Performing Arts Center's (EPAC) "Amadeus." Additionally, Petley has worked as music director for various local organizations including Lancaster Mennonite School, The Fulton Theatre, EPAC, and Servant Stage.

The program will include Mauer's and Petley's arrangements of works by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Pat Metheny, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and the Beatles.
