Christmas tours slated at mansion

Members of the public are invited to experience Christmas at the Haldeman Mansion, 230 Locust Grove Road, Bainbridge, on Saturday, Dec. 14. Tours of the festively decorated mansion will be available at 6, 7, and 8 p.m.

When attendees arrive, they will have an opportunity to sing carols around a fire and be greeted by the Belsnickel. During the tours, people will learn what Christmas was like in the early 19th century when Sam Haldeman was a young man.

Haldeman and his brothers and sisters eagerly anticipated the revealing of the Christmas tree, which was locked away in the parlor. The whole family had been busy making the decorations for the tree during the weeks prior to Christmas, and before the tree was unveiled, it was mysteriously decorated.

After the tour, attendees may visit the summer kitchen for homemade cookies, gingerbread, and hot drinks like wassail.

People should dress for the weather, as part of the program is outside.

There is a suggested donation for anyone age 5 and up, and prepayment is appreciated. Reservations can be made by calling Joyce at 717 900-7643; people should specify which time slot they would like.
