Christ Church United Church of Christ (UCC), 200 S. White Oak St., Annville, will present a free "Concert Under the Trees" on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 3 p.m. The concert will feature the Washington Band of Annville under the direction of Michael Yeagley. Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on to view the concert. The Cheezy Grill and Paul and Charlie's Italian Sandwich food trucks will be available from 2 to 5 p.m.

In August 1856, nine men from Annville organized a band consisting entirely of cornets. This fledgling "cornet band," under the leadership of John Henning, rehearsed in the tavern at the west end of town, known then as the Washington House. Hence, the Washington Cornet Band of Annville got its name. The Washington Band of Annville continues to provide music from patriotic marches to Broadway and movie-themed music for audiences in Annville and the surrounding communities. The band plays annually at the Annville Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, the Annville Memorial Day Parade, Olde Annville Days, the Rocherty Church Picnic and other events.
