Chicken Barbecue Will Support Fair

Support a small-town tradition and pick up a delicious dinner at the same time at a chicken barbecue to benefit the Elizabethtown Fair.

The drive-through meal will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at the Elizabethtown Fairgrounds, 900 E. High St. Each meal will include a half-chicken, a roll, applesauce, potato chips, a dessert and a drink.

The chicken for the barbecue will be partially donated by Wenger Feeds and prepared by Harvey's Main Street BBQ. Herr's will provide potato chips, and Pepperidge Farm will donate the rolls. Swiss Premium Dairy will supply discounted drinks. Mars Wrigley will contribute the desserts, and Charles & Alice will donate the applesauce.

The barbecue is the only major fundraiser for the Elizabethtown Fair, which operates with no admission charge.

"Harvey makes great chicken, and proceeds help the fair meet our mission," said Sally Nolt, fair secretary. She added that the fair's mission is "to promote educational activities for all ages involving agriculture, creativity, community involvement, spirit and pride in an atmosphere conducive to wholesome family fun."

Cookbooks, titled "Making Memories II," will also be for sale at the barbecue. Filled with recipes from local residents, the cookbooks were created to celebrate the 50th Elizabethtown Fair in 2023.

The 2026 Elizabethtown Fair will run from Monday, Aug. 24, through Saturday, Aug. 29.

Nolt said highlights will include new entertainment and Discover Ag activities, along with the return of the Hog Diggity Dog Show and camel rides.

"The fair provides activities, exhibits, contests and entertainment for all ages from our baby race to Senior Citizens Day," she said. "Exhibits include animal, agricultural, competitive and commercial exhibits. In addition, attractions include rides and a variety of food."

New this year, fair entries will be accepted online beginning approximately Friday, May 1. For more information, visit https://etownfair.com.
