Celebrate Christmas In Birdsboro

The annual Christmas in Birdsboro celebration will take place on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m., with the hub of the activities centered at Main Bird Park, 226 N. Water St., Birdsboro.

Visitors to the park will find a sale of crafts, food trucks and children's craft activities. "This year we are adding a Polar Obstacle Course, a giant inflatable snow globe and a mechanical reindeer, which is like a mechanical bull," said Christen Thompson, president of the Birdsboro Parks and Recreation Department. "Santa will be brought in on a Birdsboro-Union Fire Company fire truck at 5:15 p.m., and he will be in the gazebo (and available for photos)."

There will be live music in the park, including several groups from Daniel Boone Area High School District, including the district chorus and high school jazz band. There will also be performances by Turning Pointe Dance Studio, Abundant Life Church and Threefold Blessing. There will be a bonfire in the park and free wagon rides through town.

Congregation members from local churches will present a live Nativity, First Street Players will have roaming carolers and there will be a photo booth set up in the park.

The day will conclude with a Christmas tree lighting at 7:45 p.m., followed by fireworks at 8 p.m.

Christmas in Birdsboro is being planned by an event committee led by the Birdsboro Parks and Recreation Department, local pastors and representatives from community organizations. Local businesses have also come on board to sponsor many of the events. "A lot of local groups have come together to make this happen," Thompson said, adding that planning for the event began in August.

Parking on Dec. 10 will be available at Daniel Boone Area High School, 501 Chestnut St., Birdsboro. A shuttle bus will provide transportation to the park. Handicapped-accessible parking will be available in the park. There will also be parking available at the Matthew Brooke Professional Center, 321 N. Furnace St., Birdsboro.

In conjunction with Christmas at Birdsboro, there will be a holiday breakfast with Santa offered at Boone Area Library, 129 N. Mill St., Birdsboro, on Dec. 10 from 8 to 11 a.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the library or at the door.

Also on Dec. 10 will be the Santa Run 5K and Fun Run at 10 a.m. at Main Bird Park. The event will take 5K runners through the streets of Birdsboro. The 1-mile fun run will stay within the park. There will be awards for the top male and female winners of the 5K, as well as awards for the top male and female 5K runners in various age groups. The most festively dressed runner will also receive a prize.
