CASA Welcomes New Volunteers

York County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a program dedicated to ensuring secure living conditions for the hundreds of vulnerable children who have been placed into York County's dependency system. The York County CASA program welcomed nine volunteers to take part in the training process that began in March and culminates in May.

CASA volunteers are appointed by the court to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children who are under the court's jurisdiction. CASA volunteers serve as the eyes and ears of the court. They are appointed by a judge to gather information, advocate for the child by making fact-based recommendations to the court, monitor court orders and case plans, and ensure the best interest of the child is always considered.

All potential volunteers go through an application and screening process. They are carefully selected for extensive training. CASA volunteers are supported as they meet with the child and individuals involved to better assess and accommodate for the child's and family's needs. As an objective party, the CASA volunteer seeks to facilitate collaborative relationships to ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential and thrive in their environment.
