CAP squadron wins state awards

Jesse Jones Composite Squadron 304 of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) received top awards at the annual Pennsylvania Wing Conference on April 27.

Cadet Col. Jurnee Acosta of Lancaster won the General Carl A. Spaatz Award, which was presented by Brig. Gen. Merle D. Hart. The Spaatz Award is the highest cadet achievement, signifying exceptional leadership, aeronautical proficiency, character, and physical fitness. This award is presented to cadets who have spent an average of five years in the CAP cadet program and have completed all 16 achievements. Acosta is the second person in her family to earn the award.

Squadron 304 was selected by the Pennsylvania Wing as the Squadron of Merit, a tribute to the collective efforts of the squadron members. The award was presented by the Northeast Region commander, Col. Everett Hume, and the Pennsylvania Wing commander, Col. William A. Schlosser. Further honors were presented to Maj. Carlton "Skip" Walls, who was named Communicator of the Year, and 2nd Lt. Krystal Shannon, who received the Public Affairs Officer of the Year award.

Jesse Jones Squadron 304 meets each Monday except holidays at 7 p.m. in the Venture Jets hangar, located near the intersection of Lititz Pike and Millport Road at the Lancaster Airport. Visitors are welcome.
