Brill wins Golden Apple Award

Lancaster Catholic High School faculty member Tony Brill was one of seven educators from Catholic schools in the Diocese of Harrisburg who were honored with a 2024 Golden Apple Award. At Lancaster Catholic, Brill is an instrumental music teacher, the band director, and the director of fine and performing arts.

The other winners were Kimberly Winters, principal of Saint Joseph Catholic School in Danville; Stephanie Bader, middle school language arts and religion teacher at Saint Catherine Laboure Catholic School in Harrisburg; Michael DiMarco, theology teacher at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg; Kelli Eisenberg, music teacher at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School in Gettysburg; Kathleen Leandri, math teacher at Trinity High School in Camp Hill; and Karla Staub, math, religion, and language arts teacher at Saint Joseph Catholic School in York.

The highest recognition given by the diocese to principals and teachers, the Golden Apple Award commends the educators' professional excellence, leadership, commitment to Catholic values, and devotion to teaching in a Catholic school. Each awardee receives a certificate of achievement, a cash award, a golden apple plated in 24-carat gold, and an individual photo with Bishop Timothy Senior.

The Golden Apple Awards Program was established in 1992 through the support of the Donahue Family Foundation Inc., located in Pittsburgh. The awards program was founded by Jack and Rhodora Donahue, the parents of 13 children who all were educated in Catholic schools. The Donahues sought to express their appreciation to Catholic school teachers for striving to provide quality academic and faith-filled education.
