Boutique 1780 Celebrates Anniversary

Boutique 1780, a women's clothing store in Manheim, is celebrating its fifth anniversary this month.

Business owner Ashley Martin opened the store when her youngest daughter was 5 months old. Martin explained that she struggled to regain her sense of style along with other new moms, which was the inspiration for the business.

The business started small, with two racks of clothing. Martin worked in her garage, bringing clothes to vendor events and in-home parties before her business grew to the point where she needed a mobile boutique. A converted Winnebago camper allowed her to travel to events more easily and to keep her two daughters with her. Boutique 1780 was named the Pennsylvania Mobile Boutique of the year in 2020 and 2021 by the Boutique Hub.

This spring, Martin sold the camper and opened a storefront at 24 N. Main St., Manheim. Martin said that she misses traveling to different events, but opening a brick and mortar location was always the goal.

According to Martin, one of the things that makes the business unique is the size range offered. Each style is available in small through 3X, which means most women can come in and shop off any rack. The boutique features a large variety of tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes, jewelry, beauty products and body care items, locally made candles and handbags.

Martin still brings her children to the boutique, where they have been known to help dust, check out customers and rearrange the sales floor. Martin's oldest daughter, who is now 7, says she plans to take over the business when she is 18.
