Book Fair To Offer Free Reading Materials For All

A book fair, offering free books for people for all ages, will be held at Ellyn Honey's Little Free Library (LFL) on Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The LFL is located at Honey Spas, 3226 Morgantown Road, Mohnton. In the event of rain, the book fair will be held on Saturday, June 18.

In addition to a wide variety of books to choose from, the first LFL book fair will also feature a safety presentation by the Robeson Township Police Department.

"We will have all kinds of books: bestsellers, children's books and books for young adults," said Ellyn. "Like the Little Free Library, there is no fee, and books are not for sale; they are always a gift. We are looking forward to letting the community know who we are, what we are and where we are."

During the book fair, tables of books will be set up outdoors, and book donations will be welcome. Most of the collection has been donated by those who use the LFL. "There is one room in our office that is dedicated to Ellyn's books," said Ellyn's husband, Tim. "People will stop in with 10 boxes at a time. We clean them and stamp them and put them out. I am amazed how many books go through the library. It means there is clearly a need."

A stuffed bookworm, named Mr, Wiggles, is the LFL mascot. Ellyn recently held a contest to name the bookworm. Two of the stuffed animals will be given away during the Book Fair.

Ellyn's LFL opened in the summer of 2020. Each book in Honey's library is labeled, "Always a Gift. Never for Sale." There is also a guest book located inside the box that visitors may sign. Visitors to the box may also find special giveaways like homemade bookmarks.

As the library steward, Ellyn rotates the books inside the box on a regular basis so that frequent visitors will always have a selection of books to choose from.

On weekends, Ellen and Tim travel to find LFLs in the community. They recently visited a trailer-shaped LFL in Atglen, which was created by Jess Steck and her husband, Dan. Jess and her family plan to visit the book fair in Mohnton on June 11. "We are part of a community," said Ellyn.

The book box at Honey Spas has been registered as "Ellyn Honey's Little Free Library #99929" at http://www.littlefreelibrary.org, where a list of LFLs can be found. For more information, visit http://www.facebook.com/EllynHoneysLFL99929.
