SFMS To Sponsor Concert By Blues Musician

Guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist Carl "Buffalo" Nichols will perform blues and American roots music in a 7:30 p.m. concert at The Englewood, 1219 West End Ave., Hershey, on Thursday, Jan. 5. The event is sponsored by the Susquehanna Folk Music Society (SFMS) and WXPN. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Raised in a predominantly Black section of Milwaukee, Nichols grew up with a fascination for the guitar and the blues. He spent countless hours combing through his family's music collections, listening to songs, and learning the riffs as well as the way the music told stories.

Traveling in Europe and West Africa as a young man, Nichols gained a new perspective on his own place in the blues and on the music's place in America. Nichols has been featured on NPR's "Tiny Desk Concerts" as well as "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert."

Discounts on the ticket fee are available for SFMS and Blues Society of Central Pennsylvania members and for students ages 3 to 22. Advance tickets are available through http://www.sfmsfolk.org. Funding for SFMS concerts is provided by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, administered locally by the Cultural Alliance of York County.
