The congregation of Maytown Reformed United Church of Christ may be small in numbers, but the group strives to make a big impact on the community. The church, located at 11 E. Elizabeth St., will hold its annual bazaar and yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 28. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The bazaar will feature homemade baked goods and tickets for a giveaway drawing. The winning ticket will be drawn at 2 p.m., and the person does not need to be present to win.

"Yard sale items are varied and in good condition," said Linda Good, a member of the congregation. Items will include bedding, linens, holiday decor, jewelry, books, toys, collectibles, furniture, framed pictures and signs, decorative items and household items.

"There is something for everyone," Good shared. "This year's items include many good quality antiques and unique artifacts."

Along with baked goods for sale, the event will feature free coffee and doughnuts.

Proceeds from the annual bazaar and yard sale are used to support the church's numerous outreach ministries.

Initiatives the church supports include the East Donegal-Conoy Area Christian Food Bank and the local Homes of Hope transitional housing ministry to the homeless. Other efforts include participating in the CROP Walk; supplying health, school and cleanup kits for Church World Service; and supporting programs including the Heifer Project and Blankets and Tools of Hope.

The church holds services on Sundays at 10 a.m.

Good invites everyone to come to the bazaar to pick up a bargain and enjoy time with neighbors. She noted that the event is important to the church members, because it brings people into the church and it helps the church connect with the greater community.

"It is a mission of the church to be a visible outreach to the Maytown community," she explained. "Come, buy some treasures, enjoy free doughnuts and coffee, buy some (giveaway) tickets and enjoy the fellowship."
