Auction will benefit Manheim Central students

From handmade one-of-a-kind items to unique experiences, the MCFEE 4 Kids Auction will feature a wide variety of prizes up for grabs. The virtual event will be held from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, through 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 28. Proceeds will benefit the Manheim Central Foundation for Educational Enrichment.

"Over 200 exciting items are up for bid," said Amy Howett, MCFEE executive director, who noted that the focus will be on gift cards and tickets to Manheim community and Lancaster County establishments. A cash giveaway will also take place during the auction.

"A highlight of this year's auction event is the donation of four handmade wooden birdhouses that were designed and built by the Doe Run Elementary nature club," Howett shared. "The Doe Run nature club is funded by a MCFEE grant and led by teachers Eric Snavely and Shelly Stillwagon."

Additional auction items will include tickets to a Phillies game, along with a Visa gift card; a hot air balloon ride for two; Aero Tech Services Discovery airplane flights at Lancaster Airport; overnight getaways; golf packages; a Blackstone grill package; Lancaster County handmade Amish quilts; themed baskets; and more.

Proceeds from the event will fund projects that benefit students at all grade levels in the Manheim Central School District. Last year, the auction funded 32 grants, totaling more than $97,000.

"Some of the grants funded include a high school facility therapy dog, Baron Elementary book vending machine, Techno CNC cutting machine systems for high school tech ed, virtual field trips and video conferences, inspiring author/illustrator visits, International Culture Day, Junior Achievement programs, Doe Run nature club and Driven to Distraction program for ninth-graders," Howett said.

She added that the auction would not be possible with the support of sponsors, including Manheim Pennsylvania Auto Auction, Ruhl Insurance, Buch Funeral Home, Longenecker's True Value, DDMP Investment Advisors, Rohrer's Inc., Lancaster Toyota Mazda and Lancaster Nissan.

"The virtual online auction event is user friendly, and anyone can easily bid from anywhere on any smart device," Howett said. Winning bidders may pick up their items at the Manheim Farm Show building off Adele Avenue in Manheim during the week following the auction.
