The Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50. N. George St., York, has announced its new Family Series, which is suitable for people of all ages.

Bill Blagg Family Magic will kick off the series on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. with a show crafted exclusively for the Appell Center for the Performing Arts. Magician Bill Blagg will present more than 60 minutes of magic, comedy and audience participation opportunities.

Those who arrive early may attend a Discovery Party, featuring hands-on activities such as Disappearing Ink Art with Blissful Bonita; Art Dancing with Greater York Dance; Make Your Own Magic with Antonio Briley Jr.; and Science Story Time with Bound Books. The Strand Theatre lobby will open at 9 a.m., and the Discovery Party is free to all ticketholders.

"The Boy Who Grew Flowers" will be performed on Saturday, March 23, at 10 a.m. Based on the picture book by Jen Wojtowicz, this theater adaptation by the Treehouse Shakers features puppets, original music, dancing and movement.

"The Boy Who Grew Flowers" is about a young boy named Rink who lives on top of Lonesome Mountain with his unusual family of rattlesnake tamers and shape-shifters. The townspeople agree that Rink's family is strange, but they are simply unaware of Rink's spectacular gifts. Whenever the moon is full, Rink sprouts beautiful flowers all over his body. When a new girl, Angelina, moves to town, Rink's life truly begins to grow.

Another Discovery Party, free to all ticketholders, will take place in the Strand Theatre lobby at 9 a.m. It will feature hands-on activities and music exploration.
