American Legion Riders to host annual bike show

The Morgantown American Legion Riders will present their 12th annual bike show, featuring a display of motorcycles of all makes and models, on Saturday, June 1, beginning at noon. The event, which will take place at Col. Jacob Morgan American Legion Post 537, 4499 N. Twin Valley Road, Morgantown, is free to spectators.

In addition to the motorcycles, the event will feature food trucks, an outdoor beer garden and live music. Five bands will be featured, including Jam, an acoustic duet; Chowderhead, an '80s rock band; Drivetrain, which will perform country music; and rock bands Outrage and Shaken. All the bands have agreed to donate their time.

Motorcycle owners who choose to participate will be asked to pay a registration fee, with proceeds donated to local veterans' organizations. Trophies will be awarded in various categories, such as stock, custom, trike, tour stock, tour custom, antique and side car. Another motorcycle club, the Blue Comets of Schwenksville, will do the judging.

"There are usually about 30 bikes that enter," explained Linda Jacobs, the post historian, who noted that the event was moved to the American Legion post in 2022 after being held previously at the Church of Saint Benedict in Mohnton. "There are nine categories and the first place and second place in each category (will be recognized). There is also a people's choice and commander's choice."

The day will also include a chance auction and an opportunity to win prizes, including gift baskets.

The American Legion Riders are motorcycle enthusiasts who belong to the American Legion, the Legion Auxiliary or the Sons of the American Legion. The community service club supports local charities, including those that benefit veterans.

Club members also take part in parades and patriotic ceremonies, including the Memorial Day services in Morgantown and Elverson.
