Advanced EMT Class Slated

Northwest EMS and Elizabethtown College are teaming up to provide an Advanced EMT (AEMT) class for area residents. The course will begin on Monday, Oct. 4.

The AEMT certification is between EMT and paramedic in the extent of medical care the certified individual can provide to patients. There are fewer hours of coursework compared to a paramedic class, and the cost is significantly less.

Students must have an EMT certification prior to starting the AEMT class. This program is offered in a blended format of remote learning and in-person learning. The in-person portion of the class will take place at Northwest EMS' Elizabethtown station, 380 W. Bainbridge St. Additionally, students will earn clinical time by responding to 911 calls with the regular crew on an ambulance.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians' Advanced EMT cognitive exam and the Pennsylvania Department of Health psychomotor examinations.

A discount on tuition is available for veterans with ID or a DD214, as well as for firefighters with a letter from their chief; a promotional code is needed to obtain these discounts. For additional information and the promotional code, contact Ryan Runkle, captain and education coordinator with Northwest EMS, at 717-361-8220.
