A weekend of family fun

Elizabethtown is the place to be for two fun events on Friday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 15.

For October's 2nd Friday, the theme will be "Friday the 13th Hocus Pocus," and the festivities will feature a variety of family-friendly activities from 4 to 8 p.m., said Clint Gibble of LIV-Etown. "The Sanderson Sisters will return this year for a meet-and-greet, and there will be a free scavenger hunt - The Spells of E-Town," he said. "Everyone that completes the hunt will be entered into a drawing for $150 in gift cards to downtown Elizabethtown businesses, and everyone gets a candy prize, provided by The Candy Unicornium candy shop located off the square." Scavenger hunt sheets will be available until 7 p.m. to give participants a chance to complete them.

Downtown businesses, including event sponsor Figments in Sprinkles, will feature free, themed activities and specials, and custom collectible stickers will be provided by participating businesses to place in My Town E-Town Sticker Books. "Sticker Books are available at The Tatted Toy Guys Toy Emporium on the square and at the LIV-Etown table on the square outside the toy store that evening," Clint said, adding that proceeds from sticker book sales help support future LIV-Etown free community events.

Head back downtown on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. for Octoberfest Pirates Plunder, an annual LIV-Etown event where Pirates of Fortune's Folly take over the area with mayhem and fun while recruiting aspiring pirates to their crew.

"This year's event will be sponsored by a local family, Michael and Krissy Franceski and their kids, Dragan Bates and Freya Franceski," Clint commented. "They generously donated the funds to make this possible when the event found itself with no sponsor and faced cancellation. ... They will also be serving as our grand marshals of The Not Too Scary Hallowe-Etown Parade on Oct. 29."

Tony Gibble of LIV-Etown noted that the Pirates Plunder will include a scavenger hunt for One-Eye Willy's treasure, and both kids and the young at heart can sign up to join the pirate crew, setting out on a voyage to find everything they'll need to fit the part. "An eye patch, tattoo, physical training, your bandana and more will be provided by participating businesses and LIV-Etown," he said. "You'll be able to fight a pirate. There will be street performers, food trucks, tons of decorating, photo ops, pirates, mermaids, a free bounce house, specials, activities and so much more."

Participants are encouraged to dress like pirates, but it's not required, he said, adding that stickers for the sticker book will also be available at this event.

"If you love pirates, fun and making local hometown memories, be there," Clint said.
