A Cruisin' Tradition

Cruisin' in Christiana is fortified as a yearly tradition in the local community.

Christiana Fire Company will present its fourth annual "Cruisin' in Christiana" car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, on the grounds of the William P. Brinton House, 17 Green St., Christiana.

"I think there's a lot of car enthusiasts in the area that enjoy coming out to the property," said fire company member and event organizer Shawnie Betts. "It's a great use for that property."

The rain date for the show is the following Saturday, June 20. On the day of the event, registration will begin at 9 a.m.

The first Cruisin' in Christiana event was held in the fall of 2023; it has been held in the spring every year since, aligning it more with the traditional season for car shows. Last year, there were more than 70 vehicles at the show.

When asked about what vehicles are welcomed, Betts replied, "Cars, trucks, motorcycles, classics, street rods, modified. If you want to bring a tractor trailer in, we've got space for you."

Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 65 entrants. There will also be trophies in various categories, including Best in Show (honoring Betts' late father, Terry Walker), Best Classic Truck, Best Motorcycle, Best Modern and Best Street Rod Modified.

Music will be provided by The 45 Guy, who will spin classic vinyl records. Food will be for sale, including hot dogs and hamburgers. Ice cream will be sold by the Cold Summer soft serve ice cream truck.

Like previous years, prizes and baskets will be available. Betts said that the company is hoping to have gift certificates to restaurants, Servpro and other local businesses, as well as a 50-50 drawing.

Preregistration is not available. A donation fee will be collected from vehicle owners, while all spectators will be admitted free of charge. All proceeds from the event will benefit the all-volunteer Christiana Fire Company, located at 214 S. Bridge St., Christiana.

The company serves the communities of Christiana Borough, Sadsbury Township and Atglen Borough. It also provides support to neighboring companies and communities. Last year, the company responded to 207 incidents. Through April of this year, it has responded to 65 incidents.
