Concert series will return to Huffnagle Park

The summer concert series will return with its first show at Huffnagle Park, located on Oak Street and Summit Drive in Quarryville, on Saturday, June 17, at 7 p.m. A rain location for the concerts has been set as Memorial United Methodist Church, 101 S. Hess St., Quarryville. The series will include additional shows that will be held at 7 p.m. on select Saturdays at the park throughout the summer.

The first show will feature a performance from Ian Carroll and the Patrick Players, a local group that performs folk music with a Celtic influence. Carroll, the front man and fiddler player of the outfit, has partnered in the past with the event coordinator of the concert series, Monica Wagner.

On July 1, southcentral Pennsylvania-based jazz quintet Temple Avenue will perform. Temple Avenue played in the Huffnagle Park concert series several years ago, and Wagner said she is excited to welcome the group back to Quarryville. Dewalds' Funeral & Cremation Services will provide free refreshments for the second concert of the series.

The third show of the series will take place on July 29, and it will feature music from Max and Denise. The husband-and-wife duo will play a selection of covers of songs from multiple genres and time periods, including classic folk, '50s pop songs, contemporary hits and rock 'n' roll. Max and Denise have been performing for over 40 years, and they play alongside slide guitarist Mark Arnold and acoustic drummer Billy Graham. The Katie Hall Berkshire Hathaway Team will provide free refreshments for the concert on July 29.

The Huffnagle Park concert series will conclude on Aug. 26 with a performance from Summit Hill Bluegrass, a group based in southeastern Pennsylvania that performs gospel and bluegrass music. Summit Hill Bluegrass frequently performs in the Southern End and returns to Huffnagle Park every year to participate in the concert series.

The Quarryville Lions Club covers the expenses for the annual concert series. "People really love coming out to the concerts and being able to socialize with their neighbors," Wagner said. "I personally enjoy the sense of community, but also just the small-town vibes."

When looking for artists to highlight during the series, Wagner often seeks to include those from a range of genres, but who are still local. "I try to find different acts with different styles," said Wagner. "I like to have a variety, and I'm always looking for artists."
