Troop 25 Presents Eagle Scout Awards

Four Scouts from Troop 25 in East York have earned the highest advancement rank in Scouts BSA - the Eagle Scout. Bronson Gordon, Dominic Maiolino, Nathaniel "Nate" Mitchell, and Sawyer Zimmer received their awards from Troop 25 Scoutmaster Perry Bevivino during a Court of Honor on Feb. 22 in the fellowship hall of Advent Lutheran Church in York.

For his Eagle Scout project, Bronson, son of Tammy and Lonny Gordon, remodeled several bathrooms and repaired and repainted a water-damaged hallway at Mount Zion United Church of Christ on Ridgewood Road in York. Carried out between January 2020 and January 2021, the project took approximately 150 hours to complete. After raising the necessary funds, Bronson and his volunteers repainted ceilings, walls, and bathroom stalls; installed a new bathroom vanity; and replaced floor molding along with new accessories in the bathrooms. Bronson joined Troop 25 in sixth grade, has earned 33 merit badges, and is a member of the Order of the Arrow (OA), Scouts BSA's national honor society. Bronson graduated from Central York High School in 2021. He is currently a WellSpan employee and plans to attend York College of Pennsylvania's nursing program in the fall.

For his Eagle Scout Project, Dominic, son of Erin and Ralph Maiolino, converted an old classroom in a school building into a youth chapel for the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Oxford. This project included painting the walls, refreshing the floors, and installing an altar in the room, and it took 182 hours for Dominic and his family and friends to complete. Dominic started his Scouting journey as a Cub Scout and then crossed over to Troop 97 in New Salem, where he earned 18 merit badges. Dominic then moved to Troop 25 as a First Class Scout in 2019 and earned three more merit badges, for a total of 21. Dominic graduated from Spring Grove High School in 2021 and is currently a sophomore at York College of Pennsylvania, where he is studying English.

For his Eagle Scout project, Nate, son of Alice and Darius Mitchell, repainted the blacktop games and courts at Stony Brook Elementary School in East York and added two new painted games and one painted solar system. Nate supervised fellow Scouts and adults in the 141-hour service project, which took place in July 2021. Having started as a Tiger Cub, Nate has been a Scout for 10 years, has earned 23 merit badges, and is a member of OA. Nate is a sophomore at Central York High School. He is interested in attending a university through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program and becoming a commissioned officer in the military upon graduation from college.

For his Eagle Scout project, Sawyer, son of Tracy Coleman and Daren Zimmer, improved the aesthetics of the outside landscaping behind the administration building at John Rudy Park in York. This project involved rebuilding the existing brick sidewalk and adding a section of sidewalk off the side porch. Sawyer and his adult and Scout helpers also rebuilt and secured the rock wall around the mulch beds, updated a directional sign to reflect the correct mileage, and replaced and repainted boards. The project took a total of 200 hours. Having started as a Tiger Cub, Sawyer has been in Scouting for 10 years, has earned 22 merit badges, and is a member of OA. Sawyer is a sophomore at Central York High School, where he is active in the music program and track and field. He plans to attend a higher education institution and possibly work toward a career playing a drum in an armed forces musical ensemble.

State Reps. Keith Gillespie, Stan Saylor, and Seth Grove all attended the Court of Honor and presented each Scout from their districts with a Pennsylvania House citation and a personal letter. Representatives of the Marine Corps League and the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution also attended and presented the Scouts with certificates of recognition. The new Eagle Scouts received Certificates of Special Congressional Recognition from U.S. Rep. Scott Perry and American flags that had flown over the U.S. Capitol.
