Businesses Receive Grants

The Columbia Economic Development Corporation recently awarded two Small Business Grants to local businesses. Each grant was for $1,000, and the recipients were Angry, Young, and Poor and Shupp's Barber Shop.

Angry, Young, and Poor - which recently moved to 141 Locust St., Columbia, from 356 W. Orange St., Lancaster - used its grant proceeds to paint a mural on the outside wall of its shop. The store has been in business for 30 years and sells band shirts, posters, vinyl records, CDs, and more. It has thousands of followers on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok and X. The store is owned by Jeff and Andrea Anderson.

Shupp's Barber Shop, located at 270 Locust St., Columbia, used its funds for the awning that is above the front window of the shop. The location operated as a barber shop since 1912 when the Smith family took ownership. In 1976, the family sold the building and business to Cliff Shupp, who later sold the business to his son, Edwin. Edwin and his son, Sage, now operate Shupp's Barber Shop.
