You've heard of Calla's Critter Rescue, but it is time for Calla's Kitty Kingdom.

Calla's Critter Rescue (CCR), a nonprofit organization founded in May of 2021 by Twin Valley alumna Calla Frame, born Calla Gibson, is set to open a new location in Phoenixville.

The new location will be located within Maddie's Castle, an independent pet supply boutique at 178 Bridge St., Phoenixville. The location opened on Sept. 12, and the project is a collaboration between three female-run organizations.

"Lindsay (Oliver) from Maddie's Castle approached me with the idea, and we have been kind of thinking about collaborations for the past year now," Frame said. "We're basically building it up into a little storage closet that she owns. Very tiny, but it'll make a huge impact."

Oliver is good friends with Stacey Sherman, who operates BarkHop Studio in Chester County. BarkHop is a pet photography studio; Sherman will take photos of the adoptable cats from CCR and the Kitty Kingdom for sharing over social media.

"Everybody likes to see a nice picture," Frame said. "We're pretty well known in this area, just three big, powerhouse women coming together to get the job done and get these kitties adopted. ... We're all using what we are good at doing to try and get more exposure for these kitties."

The new location will operate similarly to CCR's other two locations. The critter rescue will provide adoptable cats, which will be hosted at another location that also provides another service.

The organization also has hands in two other locations, Calla's Kitty Garden and Craig's Cat Cafe.

The Kitty Garden, located within the former Diane's Pet Supplies and Adoption Center, 1486 S. Hanover St., Pottstown, which is now part of Animal House Project (AHP), another nonprofit organization, is a location where individuals can visit adoptable cats while enjoying coffee and other beverages. Frame is the head kennel manager and adoption manager at AHP.

The Cat Cafe, operated by Rachel Craig, is located at 11 Riverside Drive, Spring City, along the Schuylkill River. At the cafe, visitors can enjoy coffee and sweets while interacting with adoptable cats from CCR.

Once open, the Kitty Kingdom will follow the same hours as Maddie's Castle. Maddie's Castle is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

"Maddie is a big, fluffy gray and white cat," Frame said. "And Lindsay, she's just a very inviting, welcoming rescue-savvy kind of person who knows a heck of a lot about pet health and what you should be feeding them, giving them for a treat and enrichment. You can make your way to the back of the store, and you'll see the kingdom door and the big window. As long as the store's not busy, visitors are going to be welcome to go in and visit with the cats."

Frame said that CCR currently has around 150 cats in its care, located at the two existing physical locations and 15 foster homes. To date, CCR has helped 69 cats get adopted since April. Since opening, 568 cats have been adopted from CCR.

Currently, Frame said that the organization's biggest needs are monetary donations to go toward veterinary bills and food. CCR spends around $5,000 a month on veterinary bills alone. A donation link can be found on CCR's website, http://www.callascritterrescue.com.

"Any food donation in terms or just wet and dry food really helps cut down the cost as well," Frame said, "so we don't have to order it every other week. We're feeding a lot of mouths, and we go through a lot of bagged food."
