Pick up a ticket for a chicken barbecue on Saturday, Sept. 26, and you'll not only have a delicious lunch or dinner. You'll also support local veterans.

The American Legion Riders Chapter 185 will host a chicken barbecue on the 26th with pickup starting at 9 a.m. and meals available until sold out. The barbecue will be held at 560 Clay Alley, Mount Joy. Each meal will include a half-chicken, a baked potato, baked beans, applesauce, a roll and butter and a bottle of water. Baked goods will also be available for a small donation per item.

"We encourage people to purchase their tickets in advance to guarantee their meal," said Stacey Miller, American Legion service officer and chicken barbecue co-chair. "We will have a limited supply of extra meals available, which is on a first-come, first-served basis until we are sold out and all presales have been picked up."

The barbecue will benefit local veterans.

"The proceeds will help support the American Legion Riders group's commitment to supporting veterans and their families," said Terri Baier, barbecue co-chair. "This is one of the fundraisers aligned to our annual Jan. 1 Frosty Balls & Frozen Suzies Benefit Ride that 100% of proceeds will benefit the Lebanon VA Hospital targeted on their healing and recovery needs and supportive programming."

Formed in 2008, Chapter 185 is a group of American Legion members who share their common interest in motorcycle riding while also enjoying fellowship and community.

"All of our members have a direct connection to the service men and women, as veterans themselves, or their family members," explained Don Yeagley, American Legion Riders Chapter 185 chairman.

The riders group participates in Memorial Day parades in Mount Joy and Manheim and supports other fundraising initiatives and benefit rides across other posts and among the Lancaster and Lebanon community.

"They have prepared meals for Ronald McDonald House in Hershey and participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program," Yeagley said. "In addition, they also host other fun activities within the post like bingo, hold monthly meetings and coordinate group rides."

This year's New Year's Day ride will be the 18th year for the event, with proceeds supporting the everyday needs of veterans at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.

"In February 2026, we donated $42,000, and to date since the inaugural event, we have donated close to $400,000," said Yeagley.

The riders are always looking for new members, Miller said, adding, "While our membership is small, we do mighty things across our community and continue to seek other rider enthusiasts to join us.
