To teach is to respect. To learn is to honor. To understand is to appreciate.

When the Wreaths Across America (WAA) Mobile Education Exhibit rolls to a stop, meaningful education comes about.

Along with Linda Gerhart, Sandy Flory is WAA's co-location coordinator for Fairview Cemetery and Fairview Cemetery annex.

"I want people to learn that we have to honor and remember these guys, while they're still here and after they pass," said Flory. "They have sacrificed time away from their families. It provides a unique opportunity to come together and share stories of those who sacrificed. It teaches people the true costs of freedom."

WAA's Mobile Education Exhibit is coming to Denver - to Weaver's Market, 2610 N. Reading Road, to be precise. The exhibit will make an appearance from noon to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The event is free to attend, and everyone is not only invited to attend, but also encouraged to do so.

"We try to educate citizens in our area about our veterans and give Vietnam veterans the welcome home they deserve," said Flory. "We know Vietnam veterans did not get the welcome home they should have. We are hoping we get a lot of veterans and a lot of people at the event."

The exhibit's physical presence takes its shape from a handicapped-accessible 18-wheel tractor trailer, equipped with a ramp and a lift. The sides of the 60-foot-long tractor trailer pop out, allowing the rig to host 24 viewers in a pop-up theater, as well as displays, interactive exhibits and short stories.

It truly is a sight to behold.

"It's going to be moving for some of the people, just because of the veterans on hand," said Flory, a resident of Denver. "I think it's going to be informational for some people.

"The Mobile Education Exhibit travels all over the place," Flory continued. "I requested it come to our area. We had to have a place that could accommodate the tractor trailer, accommodate the traffic and a site that had both bathrooms and a place to eat."

This month will mark the first time that WAA's exhibit has made a stop in Denver.

Weaver's Market is one of just 18 stops that the Mobile Education Exhibit will make during its two-month tour. Before coming to Denver, the exhibit will make an appearance in Harrisburg, and it will make a stop in Allentown after Denver.

Headquartered in Maine, Wreaths Across America is a national nonprofit that seeks to honor the service of veterans by laying wreaths on veterans' final resting places around the holidays - this year on Saturday, Dec. 19. For the last four years, volunteers from the Denver area extension of WAA have placed 470 wreaths on veterans' graves in three local cemeteries.

The Cocalico region of WAA raises money to purchase the wreaths through a series of annual fundraising events.

"We just want to spread the word so we can remember and honor our veterans," said Flory. "We have an increasing number of people coming to our events. We'd love for more communities in the area to do this."
