Come to this family-friendly event to support our library, celebrate the end of Summer Reading and of course to have fun!" said Katelyn Schwab, inviting people out to the Milanof-Schock Library's BASH End of Summer Celebration.

The event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon at the library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy.

"We have a whole assortment of family fun on this day," said Schwab, who is the children and youth program coordinator at the library, along with Alyssa Mackey. "Outside, we will have yard games, a community art project, the Balunguy, chalk drawing and bubbles. Inside our program room, we will have a TV/movie showing, Legos (and) bookmark coloring."

The library will be closed to nonregistered participants for the BASH, and the event will feature a unique opportunity for families to have fun. Inside, families can check in and wait to play indoor mini golf.

"Our mini golf will be by registration only, and we are charging (a low fee) per family as this is also serving as a mini fundraiser event," Schwab explained. "Participants can only register at the library. We cannot do registration online or over the phone due to collecting fees prior to the event. Registration is currently open, and we will take sign-ups until (Thursday,) Aug. 13, or until we are full."

Families will sign up for a specific time slot and will be able to step into the library's dinosaur-themed course, which will feature eight holes.

"This was made possible by Adventure Sports in Hershey and Heritage Hills in York, as they donated clubs and balls for us to use for this event," Schwab said. "We are very thankful for them."

This was Schwab's and Mackey's first year organizing Summer Reading at the library, and they were joined by Laura Bear, program outreach, in creating the programming.

Schwab said the 2026 Summer Reading program was very successful.

"We have had a lot of fun building and designing programs for families to learn and have fun, connecting with our community and learning ourselves by inviting other organizations to run a program here," she commented. "We appreciate anyone who participated in any way, whether they attended programs, volunteered to be a special guest for a program, donated to make programs possible or even by completing the Summer Reading challenge."

With a theme of "Unearth a Story," the Milanof-Schock Summer Reading program featured 85 programs that drew more than 2,000 participants throughout June, July and August.

"Some of our most attended programs were our summer kickoff, which is estimated at 269 participants; Raven Ridge Wildlife with 109 participants; and Phredd with 85 participants," Schwab said.
