LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Ave., Lancaster, has planned two events. Registration is available at http://www.lancasterhistory.org/events/.

A Music on the Lawn concert will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, rain or shine in the backyard at President James Buchanan's Wheatland. The family-friendly concert will showcase Untethered, featuring Paul Geiss and Jam, a Philadelphia-based spontaneous composition and jazz collective led by Geiss.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and pack a picnic. Leashed dogs are welcome.

Registration is required. There is a requested donation for people age 18 and up, and children and LancasterHistory members will receive free admission. Walk-ins are welcome.

Visitors are asked to treat the plants, flowers, and trees with kindness, as the Tanger Arboretum has put great effort into beautifying the grounds and keeping all living things healthy. Climbing the trees is not permitted.

The Friends of the Tanger Arboretum will offer a nighttime Nature Series program called "The Nocturnal World of Moths" on Saturday, Aug. 22. The event will take place from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Carriage House at the LancasterHistory Museum & Research Center.

Lancaster Conservancy naturalist Keith Williams will speak about the biology and ecology of moths, which are diverse insects and are well adapted to avoid predation and find love in the dark. A moth lighting will follow the presentation. A moth lighting, also called a mothing or light-sheeting, is an activity where an artificial light source is used to attract moths and other nighttime insects to a white sheet, allowing for individuals to look at the specimens up close.

Williams is a naturalist, educator, writer, and photographer. He has a Bachelor of Science in environmental biology from Kutztown University and a Master of Science in ecological teaching and learning from the Lesley University Audubon Expedition Institute. He has been educating people for 30 years and has established outdoor education programs across the contiguous U.S., as well as in Puerto Rico and China. He is the author of two books about snorkeling.

Williams is the vice president for engagement and education at the Lancaster Conservancy, where he serves as the Conservancy's lead naturalist, develops and manages volunteer and education programs, and manages the interpretive ranger program. He is a nationally registered paramedic, wilderness emergency medical technician, wilderness medicine instructor, swift water rescue technician, and wildlands firefighter.

There is a fee for people age 18 and up. Children age 17 and under will be admitted for free, but they must be accompanied by an adult. Friends of the Tanger Arboretum members will receive complimentary admission, but they should still register for the program.
