2nd Fridays Create Community

On the second Friday of every month, downtown Elizabethtown is buzzing with activity. 2nd Fridays, held from 4 to 7 p.m., feature activities and events with a specific purpose, said Clint Gibble, one of the organizers of the initiative. "2nd Friday is important to E-town because it encourages a sense of community in our town," he explained. "It invites people from outside our community to explore our town and what it has to offer. It creates a fun environment where everyone can be a part of it."

2nd Fridays have been spotlighted in Elizabethtown for a few years and were originally managed by the Elizabethtown Chamber of Commerce, said Tony Gibble, who owns two local businesses, The Tatted Toy Guys and The Candy Unicornium, with Clint. Recently, a group of community members began revitalizing 2nd Fridays under the umbrella of LIV-ETown, a group made up of volunteers and business owners including Clint and Tony, Charlamay's Trinkets and Treasures owner Abby Huber and Frugal Finds owner Liz Carotto. "2nd Fridays are about community interaction in Elizabethtown's downtown, with families and friends having fun together," Tony stated. "Each 2nd Friday has an overall theme as well as a free scavenger hunt downtown designed to fit the theme. Everyone gets a free prize at the end of their scavenger hunt and is entered into a grand prize drawing." Individual businesses are encouraged to offer specials or activities inside their stores to fit the theme, he said, such as a giveaway or game. 2nd Fridays also feature dessert trucks, special vendors and food specials at downtown restaurants.

"Several times throughout the year, extra special events will be happening during the 2nd Friday evenings," Tony stated. "In April, we'll have Wonderlandza Egg-stravaganza, where we will be hosting Oliver the Rabbit and his buddy the Mad Hatter for photos with other fun activities - egg-themed, of course."

For this month's 2nd Friday, on March 11, St. Patrick's Day will be the theme. "Guests will be welcome to take part in Crazy Pat's Gold Coin Scavenger Hunt, where you'll go on a hunt through participating businesses downtown to find an item on your hunt sheet," said Clint, noting that the hunt will begin at Charlamay's Trinkets and Treasures, 45 S. Market St., and will end with a candy prize donated by The Candy Unicornium, 2 W. High St. "Twisted Spoon will be on the square serving Irish favorites. Irish music will fill the air. There will be a photo op spot and other fun." He added that people are invited to dress for St. Patrick's Day, with green clothes, accessories and costumes strongly encouraged.

"If you want to feel small-town spirit, this is a year not to miss E-town's 2nd Fridays as we grow the activities and fun to be had in our beautiful downtown," Huber remarked. "It's not just for our community, but for anyone that wants to have a great time with great people."
