"Feed The Need" To Benefit Hershey Food Bank

Attendees will be able to sample dishes from some of the finest local restaurants at Feed the Need, which will take place on Sunday, Nov. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hershey Country Club, 1000 E. Derry Road, Hershey. Proceeds from the event, which will also include a silent auction and live music, will benefit the Hershey Food Bank.

New this year is that local eateries will be featured in addition to Hershey Entertainment & Resorts restaurants. "You are not getting pretzel bites and dipping mustard. We try to get a variety (of foods)," said Leigh-Anne Dornberger, who handles public relations for the food bank. "Most of the chefs are award-winning. The local restaurants have wonderful food as well."

She noted that ticket holders can enjoy unlimited tastings. "You are getting your money's worth. It's limitless," said Dornberger.

The venue includes two rooms where activities will take place. "We use the big ballroom, which is where the chefs are, and the people walk around from station to station," Dornberger said, noting that the live auction will also take place in the ballroom. "Another room, Traditions, is where the silent auction is and the bar and dessert station." Each attendee will receive two tickets for complimentary wine and beer. Also featured will be live music by the Lil' Brother Band.

The live auction will include jewelry; a signed jersey by professional soccer player Christian Pulisic, a Hershey native; a beer-pairing dinner for 10 people by Englewood Brewing of Hershey; and a week's stay at a vacation home in Maine. The silent auction will feature gift baskets with items donated by local businesses, such as restaurants and nail salons. There will also be a Christmas-themed basket.

This year's fundraiser marks the return of an in-person event. "This is our 11th year. In 2020, we did two virtual events, which were wine pairings. One was wine and cheese pairing, and the other was a wine and chocolate pairing," explained Dornberger. "In 2021, we did an open house at the food bank, and it was outdoors on Giving Tuesday. It was more of a celebration for 10 years (of Feed the Need) and thanking the community. We had live music and people could take tours of the food bank, and we had a QR code if people wanted to make a donation."

The Hershey Food Bank, 120 E. Derry Road, Hershey, distributes food twice monthly to approximately 250 families in Derry Township. The number of families relying on the food bank has increased each month in 2022. In addition, the food bank provides traditional holiday food at Thanksgiving and Christmas to families in need. Christmas presents and gift certificates for children's clothing are included with the Christmas food distribution. To learn more, visit http://www.hersheyfoodbank.com.
