LCBS Holds 150th Anniversary Banquet

The Lancaster County Beekeepers Society (LCBS) marked a historic milestone with the celebration of its 150th anniversary Members Banquet, held on the anniversary of its founding, March 13.

The event brought together members, leaders, and supporters to honor a century and a half of beekeeping education, stewardship, and community in Lancaster County. A highlight of the banquet was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Jim Pinkerton, recognizing his years of dedication, leadership, and lasting contributions to LCBS and the broader beekeeping community. Pinkerton, a former LCBS president and longtime advocate for beekeeping education, was celebrated for his commitment to mentoring and advancing the craft.

The banquet featured a lineup of guest speakers who shared insights and reflections on the importance of beekeeping and agricultural stewardship, including Frank Ruthkosky, president of the Pennsylvania State Beekeepers Association; Jim Pinkerton, former LCBS president and honoree; Karen Roccasecca, state apiarist of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture; Chris Davis, acting deputy secretary for plant industry and executive director of the Commission for Agriculture Education Excellence, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

The anniversary year has also brought significant recognition from state and federal leaders. LCBS received official proclamations from Governor Josh Shapiro, recognizing the society's 150th anniversary; Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell C. Redding, celebrating the milestone; Congressman Lloyd Smucker, commemorating 150 years of service; and state Sen. James Andrew Malone of the 36th Senate District, congratulating LCBS on its participation in the Pennsylvania Farm Show.

For 150 years, the LCBS has remained committed to education, mentorship, and the promotion of responsible beekeeping practices. LCBS continues to build on its legacy - supporting pollinators, empowering beekeepers, and strengthening the agricultural community for generations to come.
