The Lititz Historical Foundation will host a program at the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz, on Saturday, April 18. Dominish Marie Miller will present "Pennsylvania's Women on the Home Front: Their Contributions and Impact."
Miller will speak about the contributions of women on the home front during World War II. From the steel mills of Pittsburgh to the shipyards of Philadelphia and the factories of York and Lancaster, Pennsylvania women stepped up to fill the void left by the millions of men serving overseas.
Miller is the Third Circuit Court of Appeals librarian for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, the founder of Preserving the History of Newberrytown, the organizer of the Lewisberry Area History Lovers group, and a founding board member of the Newberrytown Special Events Committee. She serves as librarian and VIS chair for the Harrisburg Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She is also a re-enactor with the 87th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Company C, in which she portrays a second corporal. She has written two cookbooks and two local history books.
The program is free and open to the public. To register, call the library at 717-626-2255 or visit https://calendar.lancasterlibraries.org/event/lititz-historical-foundation-129308. Seating is limited to 100 people.
In addition, the Lititz Historical Foundation will hold its annual plant exchange in conjunction with the Lititz Garden Club on Sunday, April 26, at 1:30 p.m. The event will take place rain or shine in the Mary Oehme Gardens, located behind the museum buildings at 137-145 E. Main St., Lititz.
The plants to exchange must be perennials and must have identification tags. Each plant must be placed in a container for transportation. When participants arrive, they will receive a ticket for each plant, and the plants must be placed in categories, such as sun, shade, exotic, bulbs, herbs, and ground cover. Each ticket may be redeemed for another plant after all plants have been sorted and the attendees have had time to browse.
