Kaedyn Williams ascends to top of his own podium

Kaedyn Williams achieved so much during his time wrestling at Manheim Township that it's difficult to single out one greatest accomplishment. But if you could, it would be that he overcame challenges to reach his full potential, that he became the best wrestler that he could be, that he became the best version of Kaedyn Williams that he could be.

On March 9 at Hershey's Giant Center, Kaedyn's spectacular senior season and career reached a conclusion with a bronze-medal finish at the PIAA Class AAA championships. He ended his 12th-grade year with a spectacular 37-1 record and a stellar career mark of 115-6.

"It's been a journey," said Kaedyn. "It's taken a while for me to mature as a person and finding out how strong of a person I am. Wrestling has really taught me a lot about myself as a person. I've grown a lot because of wrestling, just in the way I know my body, what it needs and when it needs it."

In addition to this year's finish, Kaedyn captured a state title as a freshman and finished third in the state as a sophomore and fourth as a junior. Kaedyn also won four District Three Class AAA titles.

"I'd say the accomplishment I'm most proud of is my state title," said Kaedyn. "I know what I'm capable of. It's what pushed me every single day. It just comes down to mental. I've had my struggles with wrestling, which is a mentally challenging sport. I feel like I'm never going to quit. I feel like losing is never an option. When I do take it on the chin, I let it sink in and learn from it."

"Kaedyn is the type of wrestler who knows how to flip the switch on, especially in the postseason," said Manheim Township head coach Aaron Moldoff. "He's a fun kid to be around off the mat, but when it's go time, he's always ready. His wrestling IQ is unreal, and he was hungry to get back on top of the podium."

When Kaedyn was 5, he brought home a flyer about wrestling from his kindergarten class. But it was a rivalry with his brother, Kamdyn, and support from his father that really caused Kaedyn's love for the sport to take hold.

"It's about persevering and not giving up," said Kaedyn. "I've had obstacles and times I could've quit. But I just couldn't leave it the way it was. It's important to know how strong you are, even if you get to a point where you know there's no going back."

Kaedyn's incredible scholastic career bodes well for future success in wrestling. He has committed to continue his athletic and academic careers at Rider University, where he's considering a major in business.

"Coming into the season, I had some anxiety and doubt because I hadn't competed in a long time," said Kaedyn. "But I also had a chip on my shoulder because I knew how good I was, and I wasn't getting the recognition I deserved. It was the best season of my career. It was a pretty dominant season. It was my most complete season."
