Summer GEARS Programs Set

GEARS will offer several summer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person cost, with a discounted rate for GEARS members. To register or for more information, visit http://www.getintogears.org or call GEARS at 717-367-0355.

Field hockey camp will be offered for students in kindergarten through grade seven from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 6, through Friday, June 10, at Jane Hoover Field, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. Campers will be introduced to the game of field hockey and learn the basic skills of the game. More advanced skills and game concepts will be provided to students in grades four to seven. Participants will need a field hockey stick, shin guards, and a mouth guard. A field hockey stick can be provided for players who do not have one. A T-shirt is included in the fee.

Creative Movement will teach participants ages 3 and 4 how to interact in a group setting including listening skills and taking turns. The program will take place on Tuesdays, June 7 to July 26, from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. Children will have active lessons in color, numbers, shapes, body part recognition, spatial awareness/directionality, balance, and developmentally appropriate gross-motor skills. The course will integrate poetry, music, and manipulatives to continually engage and stimulate growth.

A Combo Dance Class will take place from 7 to 7:45 p.m. on Tuesdays, June 7 to July 26, at GEARS Community Center. Students ages 5 and 6 will be introduced to and start to develop mastery of basic ballet and tap skills.

Fight 'N Flow for participants age 14 and older will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, June 7 to Aug. 9, at Fighting Dragons, 101 Cherry St., Elizabethtown. The class will feature MMA-style cardio conditioning paired with total body strength and lengthening with kata, yoga, and Pilates-inspired flow.
