Library Plans Programs

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, has posted its upcoming programs. Unless otherwise noted, all programs are free and require registration by visiting http://www.mslibrary.org or calling 717-653-1510.

Gently used books and media can be donated to the self-service shed behind the library on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The library will not accept donations from Sunday, May 22, through Tuesday, June 21.

The Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank will hold a blood drive at the library on Tuesday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Masks are required and will be provided for those who do not have them. A form of identification is required. The Donut Guys food truck will be on-site from 4 to 7 p.m.

The library will be closed on Saturday, May 28, and Monday, May 30.

Child, youth and family activities will include Super Science, for children age 3 and up, on May 10 at 10:30 a.m.; Lego Challenge, a family program, on Tuesday, May 3, at 6 p.m., with space limited; Story Time on Wednesdays and Thursdays through May 19 at 10:30 a.m.; a Homeschool Art Class, for children age 7 and up, on Thursday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m.; Fun Family Bingo, for people age 7 and up, on May 10 at 6 p.m., with space limited; Homeschool STEM, for youths age 7 and up, on Thursday, May 12, at 1:30 p.m.; Homeschool History Mystery, for children age 7 and up, on May 19 at 1:30 p.m.; and Adventure with Baby, for children ages 6 to 24 months with a caregiver, on Tuesday, May 24, at 10:30 a.m., with space limited.

Families may also visit the library for Fun Fort Friday on May 13 from 5 to 6 p.m. Attendees may bring blankets or sheets, flashlights and a drink. Space is limited.

Miss Jan invites community members to visit the library on Friday, May 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. to help her make decorations for the library's Mount Joy Memorial Day Parade float. Patrons may also ride the float in the parade on May 28. For details, contact Miss Jan at the library.

The bi-weekly reading challenges for adults have returned. Visit the library for the topics or look for them on social media.

The last two programs in a five-part series on dementia will take place on select Thursdays at 6 p.m. Topics will be "Addressing Challenging Behaviors" on May 5 and "Creative Problem Solving" on May 12. Attendees may choose to sign up for one or more of the sessions.

Programs for adults will also include Adult Game Night on Wednesday, May 4, at 6 p.m.; Closely Knit, for knitters and crocheters, on Mondays, May 9 and 23, at 1 p.m., with no registration necessary; the Northwest Book Club on Wednesday, May 11, at 6 p.m.; Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club, for people of all skill levels, on Saturday, May 21, from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; A Gathering of Artists Club on Wednesday, May 18, from 6 to 8 p.m.; and Make-It Monday on May 23 at 6 p.m., with the project to be announced on the aforementioned website and social media pages. The Friends of the Milanof-Schock Library will meet on May 9 at 6 p.m., and new members are welcome.

The library will kick off the Summer Reading Program, "Oceans of Possibilities," on Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. Families may pick up Summer Reading Program packets, and participants may register for special summer programs. The Dutch Country Hand-Rolled Soft Pretzels truck and Rita's of Mount Joy will be on-site. Online registration for Summer Reading Program events will be available on Monday, June 6, and reading packets can be picked up during open hours throughout the summer.
