Greystone Manor Plans Open House

Greystone Manor Therapeutic Riding Center (GMTRC), 1063 Hartman Station Road, Lancaster, will host an open house from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. This family-friendly event is open to the public and will feature tours, games, an opportunity to meet the horses, door prizes, and, until 5 p.m., the Spanish Island Food Truck.

The open house will coincide with the last day of National Volunteer Week. GMTRC relies heavily on volunteers to carry out its programming. The organization welcomes individuals as young as 14 years of age to volunteer with the program. Family groups and community groups are welcome.

For over 40 years, GMTRC has been offering therapeutic riding lessons and equine-assisted therapeutic activities to children and adults with special needs. Clients' diagnoses vary widely and include Down syndrome, neurological injuries, autism, depression, and anxiety. GMTRC's therapeutic riding program seeks to aid clients in overcoming some of the challenges associated with their diagnoses with the help of 12 specially trained horses and ponies.

In addition to weekly lesson programming, GMTRC welcomes special groups by appointment. This summer, GMTRC will welcome back Aaron's Acres campers for specialized programming. GMTRC also recently added Silver Saddles, a four-week program for local seniors that is designed to allow participants to experience the bond between humans and horses. Silver Saddles caters specifically to individuals age 55 and up looking to enhance physical, intellectual, and personal growth, as well as facilitate positive community connections.
