Park Activity Schedule Set

Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee and registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event. Maple Sugaring for people of all ages will be offered on three separate dates. All sessions will take place at Pavilion 11, 733 Williamson Road, Lancaster. Sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26; from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27; and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 6. Visitors may drop in during the free event as park naturalists share the history of production, tap sugar maple trees, boil sap in the sugar shack, finish the syrup, and make candy. Groups may schedule a private program for a small fee.

TNY Science: Maple Sugar will run from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, at Pavilion 11. Teens ages 11 to 17 will join a naturalist to learn first-hand the steps of making maple syrup and maple candy from identification and tapping of the sugar maple tree to the boil-off process over the sugar shack fire. The evening will end with a sample of maple sugar candy for all participants. Parents may drop off children but must first sign a release waiver.
