Serving The Lord And Serving The Community

Memorial United Methodist Church (UMC) and the Quarryville Lions Club have teamed up once again to host their third annual New Year's Day fundraiser meal on Saturday, Jan. 1. The meal of pork and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, and dessert will be available for takeout only from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church (UMC), 101 S. Hess St., Quarryville.

"I think (the event) is just an awesome opportunity for two organizations to come together and to do something that not only benefits both the ministry and the club, but also just people in the community who have looked forward to the meal," said Eddie Adams, youth pastor at Memorial UMC.

Those who live within a 5-mile radius of the church and need meals delivered can make arrangements by calling 717-786-2941. Tickets for meals may be purchased in advance or at the event. To purchase tickets, contact the church at the aforementioned number or Gerald Wagner with the Lions Club at 717-786-2195.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be divided between Memorial's youth ministry and the Lions Club's community initiatives. "If you know anything about the Lions Club, they do a lot of different things throughout the community, so they're always a staple and I think the backbone of what this community represents," stated Adams. "The youth ministry program, over the past year and a half, has helped introduce people to Jesus; and it's also helped introduce people to just deeper relationships."

The church and Lions Club members welcome volunteers to help during the fundraiser. "I think there's something really cool about serving together with people in the community that might not be from these respective organizations," commented Adams. "I think it just creates a little bit more connectedness within the Southern End."
