GEARS will offer a "What's in the Sky Tonight?" class on Friday, Nov. 19, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Chickies Creek Day Use Area, located on Long Lane, Columbia. After a discussion of different ways to get to space, participants will observe the skies, weather permitting. The activity is open to people age 6 and up, with a parent or guardian required to be present for anyone under 16. There is a set fee for all attendees.
Glass Fusing for Beginners will be offered on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. People age 6 and up may create their design by selecting glass in the color of their choice, cutting the glass and arranging their design on a glass canvas. The design will be fired at the instructor's studio in a kiln and returned to the student the following week. The instructor, Kathleen Forney, is a fused glass artist in Elizabethtown.
GEARS will offer a New York City - Value Day trip on Saturday, Dec. 18, with a 7 a.m. departure from the parking lot of Elizabethtown Area High School, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. Participants may enjoy a day on their own in the Big Apple. The approximate return time is 11 p.m. GEARS anticipates that there will be vaccination and mask requirements in New York City.
