Program To Focus On Candy
The Ephrata Cloister will offer a Virtual Ephrata Academy presentation on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. via Zoom.
Zachary Long, volunteer and special events coordinator at Pennsbury Manor, will share the story of clear toy candy, as well as the molds and manufacturers who made it all possible. He will also share some of his collection of candy molds.
Clear toy candy is a traditional confectionery that has origins in Germany, England, and Scotland, with forms of this candy dating back to the 17th century. Clear toy candy quickly became an art form and is often made throughout the Christmas and Easter seasons.
The program is free but requires advance registration by visiting http://www.EphrataCloister.org and clicking on "Events."
The Virtual Ephrata Academy program is presented on the second Thursday of each month except December by the Historic Ephrata Cloister. Details on upcoming holiday programs at the historic site can be found at the aforementioned website.
