Club Plans Hikes

York Hiking Club has planned its activities. For additional details, visit http://www.yorkhikingclub.com or the club's Facebook page. Changes due to inclement weather will be available on Facebook or by contacting the hike leader. Hikers should wear appropriate attire, including hiking boots, and bring water, a lunch, and/or snacks.

A 9-mile hike will be offered on Saturday, Nov. 13. The group will meet at 9 a.m. at Hanover Junction, 2433 Seven Valleys Road, Seven Valleys, and hike to Glen Rock and back on the rail trail. There will be a break at Glen Rock. The path is not challenging. Hike leaders Regina and George Haritos may be contacted at 717-332-2221.

A fall hike at Harpers Ferry, W.Va., will take place on Saturday, Nov. 20. Hikers will take the Appalachian Trail into the town of Harpers Ferry starting from the parking lot off Route 340 after the second bridge. The group will walk the C&O canal and ascend Maryland Heights to the scenic overlooks and return. This is a strenuous hike of about 8 to 10 miles. There will be time to explore the town and an optional dinner stop on the way home. Attendees should bring hiking poles. There is a national park fee per vehicle, so those with a national parks pass should bring it along. Participants may meet at the TGIF parking lot off Routes 15 and 97 at 8 a.m. to carpool; there is a carpool fee. Anyone who plans to attend is asked to call or text Kim Shue at 717-688-5142.
