Got the blues? Head to downtown Mount Joy for a cure. Main Street Mount Joy will host Blues, Brews and BBQs on Friday, Sept. 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. and all day on Saturday, Sept. 25.

"There will be barbecue and beer specials at local restaurants and some blues music in the evening," said Dave Schell, executive director of Main Street Mount Joy. Blues guitarist Harry Marr will entertain on Friday night.

"Harvey's BBQ is usually a hot spot for this event, so you'll want to order ahead of time and use their drive-through," Schell recommended. "Bube's Brewery is planning some menu items and is planning some blues music. We usually have a good response from the downtown restaurants."

He added that next door to Harvey's, Garpstas Realty Team will be holding an open house at 228 E. Main St. "They're located in a distinctive building downtown a lot of people have been watching as they renovate," Schell noted.

Plans were still being finalized to include a sidewalk chalk art event during the weekend. Artists can sign up to participate by calling the Main Street Mount Joy office at 717-653-4227 or emailing Schell at info@mainstreetmountjoy.com. There is a fee to participate in the art event, which will be held at various spots throughout the downtown area.

Blues, Brews and BBQs is typically held annually as a Fourth Friday event. "We have been doing an event like this for several years," Schell remarked. "We weren't able to hold it last year, so we're hoping there is a crowd of people to come out to help the local small businesses this year. Some of our Fourth Fridays are retail-based, and this is one that is more restaurant-based."

Schell noted that for a small town, Mount Joy has a variety of restaurants, and he encouraged people to make plans to attend the weekend event. "If you haven't been downtown to eat at one of our local restaurants, this is a great opportunity to try one out," he said. "If you have been downtown to eat, it is a way to try out a new place. Even if you don't like barbecue-flavor or barbecue-style foods, the menus are extensive, so there is something you'll enjoy at any of our downtown restaurants."
