Program To Focus On Conestoga Wagons

The Solanco Historical Society will sponsor a program on Saturday, July 17, at 1:30 p.m. at the society's Archives Building, 1932 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville.

The Arthur Reist family will present "History of the Conestoga Wagon." The Conestoga wagon is an important part of 18th- and 19th-century U.S. history, and its influence can be seen today in the way roads are laid out and how vehicles are constructed and driven. The Reist family will discuss the Conestoga wagon's influence on the development of the nation beginning with the year 1717. The presenters will also offer a brief history of the United States and important historical events, as well as information on why the Conestoga wagon was built and how it was constructed. Many original artifacts will be available to view.

The program is free and open to the public.
