Park Programs Announced

Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Additionally, registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event. New Moon and the Fireflies, for people of all ages, will take place on Friday, July 9, from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Participants will take a walk to find, catch, and release the Pennsylvania state insect, the firefly, and to find and hear other animals.

People age 4 and up may attend Paddle in the Park on Sunday, July 11. Sessions will be available from 11 a.m. to noon, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Community members may sign up for one or more of the time slots to learn basic paddling strokes. After receiving instruction on land, they may practice their skills in a flat-water area of the Conestoga River. Attendees should meet at 877 Rockford Road in Central Park. There will be a fee per person per hour.

Magnify the Natural World, a program for people of all ages, will be held on Monday, July 12, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Participants should meet at the Muhlenberg Meadow parking lot located at 548 Golf Road, Lancaster. They will walk through the meadows and the woods, using their eyes and magnifying tools to examine small things.

Bat Myth Busters will be offered on Wednesday, July 14, from 1 to 2 p.m. Participants will play games and make crafts to learn facts about bats. This program is geared for children ages 5 through 8. Older or younger children are welcome if accompanying a sibling in the program's age range; younger siblings should be registered.
