First-Grade Students Create Book

First-graders in Kristen Capion's class at Nye Elementary School self-published their own book recently. The book, "Our Squiggle Story," opens with a drawing of a squiggly line followed by the text, "This curvy line might just look like a squiggle to some people, but to our class we see much more. Enjoy our beautifully transformed squiggles."

On the pages that follow, the 17 students in Capion's class each embellished the squiggle with their own artwork and wrote a paragraph describing the resulting creative design. For example, one student turned the squiggle into a dolphin swimming among other fish, seaweed and a starfish with 15 legs.

Capion ends the book with one more plain squiggle illustration and the text "Always remember, no matter how old you are, to let your imagination run wild. You never know where it may take you."
