ELANCO Library Plans Activities

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer in-person browsing and a variety of virtual and in-person programs to the community. For outdoor programs, attendees should bring a blanket, and children must stay with their families. All events and activities can be found at http://www.elancolibrary.org. Registration is required for all events at the aforementioned website, by calling the library at 717-354-0525, or by emailing cbarrows@elancolibrary.org.

The library will be closed on Friday, May 28, through Monday, May 31, to prepare to reopen with expanded hours on Tuesday, June 1.

Face masks that cover the mouth and nose are required for entry to the library for everyone over age 2. Individuals who are unable to wear a mask may utilize the no-contact self-pickup service; for more details, call the library.

The Summer Reading Program, themed "Tails and Tales," will begin on Saturday, June 5. It is open to everyone, from babies through adults. Reading logs will be available at the library starting on June 5.

Two virtual story time programs will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on the library's Facebook page: Preschool Story Time on Tuesdays for children ages 3 to 6 and Toddler Thursdays on Thursdays for children ages 1 to 3.

Outdoor, in-person story times will be offered at 10:30 and 11 a.m., with masks required: Preschool Story Time on Tuesdays and Toddler Thursdays on Thursdays.

Dungeons and Dragons Club will gather via Zoom on Thursdays, June 3 to 24, at 6 p.m. The club is open to people ages 10 to 19 via Zoom, including beginners. To register or to receive help building a character sheet, contact cbarrows@elancolibrary.org.

The library will offer Take and Makes during June. The registration deadline is Sunday, June 6, at 11:59 p.m. Items must be picked up from Monday, June 14, through Saturday, June 19, at 4 p.m. Register online or by phone. No-contact self-pickup is available by emailing Ms. Carla at cbarrows@elancolibrary.org.

Writers ages 12 to 19 are invited to contribute to the Teen SummerZine 2021, which will feature poetry, short stories, and essays by Lancaster County teens as well as guest authors Abbey Nash, Jenni L. Walsh, and Eric Bell. Youths and the guest authors will meet virtually on Tuesdays, June 8 to Aug. 17, at 4 p.m.

The Graphic Novel Book Club, for children ages 8 to 12, will meet on June 8 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom to discuss "El Deafo" by Cece Bell.

Turtle Dance Music will be offered outdoors on Wednesday, June 9, at 1:30 p.m. for children ages 2 to 10 with their parents or caregivers. The show is meant to be inclusive for all children, including those on the autism spectrum.

Hooks and Needles Craft Club, for adults, will gather via Zoom on Monday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m. Register on the library's website or by contacting hsmith@elancolibrary.org.

Magician Ran'D Shine will present an in-person performance outdoors on June 14 at 6:30 p.m. for people age 7 and up.

Youths in grades seven through 12 may read any book in preparation for attending the Virtual Teen Book Club meeting on Monday, June 21, at 1 p.m. They may also join the Virtual Teen Advisory Group on June 21 at 1:30 p.m. to help plan future teen events at the library.

Phredd - Ukulele One Man Band will perform in person, outdoors on Monday, June 28, at 6:30 p.m. for children birth to age 12 with parents and caregivers.
